For those who may be alarmed by the term "comic book" breathe easy. It actually has some substance, maybe not educational, but certainly informative, humorous, and stickery.

Written at an adult level but aimed at teens, storylines pit Ag Man and his able assistants, farm boy and corn silk, against a series of animal rights lunatics, media trouble makers, self serving ecodestructionists, locusts, market manipulators, and bioterrorists.

The world's bestselling cowboy poet and public radio's favorite former large animal veterinarian, Baxter Black, is back in the saddle with a hilarious new roundup of essays, commentaries and campfire verse that speaks to the cowboy soul in us all.

Drawn in part from Baxter's wildly popular NPR commentaries and syndicated columns, Horseshoes, Cowsocks & Duckfeet offers a generous helping of his tender yet irreverent, sage-as-sagebrush takes on everything from ranching, roping, Wrangler jeans, and rodeos to weddings and romance, the love of a good dog, dancing, parenting, cooking up trouble and the weather!

Horseshoes, Cowsocks & Duckfeet is a beautiful, 265 page hardcover book, illustrated by the best cowboy cartoonists, and is published by Crown Publishing.

Baxter describes his writings as mostly humorous, occasionally political, and accidentally informative. Regardless, they remain true to his western heritage, his agricultural upbringing, and those stubborn, dedicated, honorable folks who make a living off the land and give him purpose.

To truly appreciate his perspective it helps to understand the cowboy mentality. It can best be demonstrated by the joke wherein the cowboy holds his hand up in front of his face, palm to his nose, looks out over his fingers, and says, "Bet you can't hit my hand before I move it."

The illustrations in this book are cleverly, colorfully done by a card table full of ink wielding cowboy cartoonists charged with the responsibility of making Baxter look good. They try.

This book is Baxter's 2nd hardback collection. A second helping, you might say. In an effort to confuse you, we combined these popular softcovers; Croutons On A Cow Pie, Cowboy Standard Time and The Buckskin Mare, plus 45 new pieces never before presented in a book form. Charlie marsh, Dave Holl, Don Gill and bob Black have added their own unique interpretations of Baxter's wit with their illustrations. It makes it tough for readers, though..."Do I look at the pictures first, or read the poem first?"

Cowboy Mentality - Selected pieces from live shows and studio tapings that will strike a note in the hearts and funny bones of all who have married a cowboy type, calved a heifer, called the vet, drove an old truck, or replaced a prolapse. You and your family are in here somewhere.

The second CD in the set is called The Big One That Got Away Blues. Over the years many outfitters and guides have taken Baxter's tapes along to play for their hunters around the campfire after supper. It includes tales of camp cooks, visiting dogs, the wiley elk, the hunter's son, geese, trout, oriental chicken, mules, bear rugs, ghosts and trail ride compaction.

These recordings are as close as you can get to havin' Baxter in the cab of your pickup or around your campfire. And you don't have to be a cowboy, cowgirl or outdoorsman to enjoy his humor, as witnessed by his popularity on National Public Radio.

Baxter Black, America's best-selling cowboy poet, is also a songwriter. Numerous western artists, including Ed Bruce, Red Steagall, Ian Tyson, Sons of the San Joaquin, and others equally talented, have recorded his songs.

Jim Schafer, who first cut one of Baxter's songs in 1982, has produced an entire CD (13 songs) of Baxter's tunes. The two have been friends since college, and nobody knows Baxter's music better than Jim.

The songs are done in Jim's straightforward cowboy fashion with some flashy pickin' lighting the dark corners. Butch Hause, the Rocky Mountains' premier sideman and friend of Baxter and Jim, fills in the potholes.

This CD is a first for everybody, and you're gonna be pleasantly surprised

Jim Schafer has achieved critical success with his masterful guitar playing and his true cowboy renditions of authentic western music. A close friend and guitar pickin' buddy of Baxter Black, he has performed and recorded many of Baxter's songs.

Long before Baxter's success as a cowboy poet, the ol' coyote wrote songs. Lots of them. "More Baxter Songs" covers thirteen of his best --poignant, heartfelt, wry and full of misery and pain. Kinda like a Haggard record, with a lot smaller budget.

Jim has a real handle on these tunes and treats them like old friends. Just like him and Bax.

Cowboy pride - how do you explain it? Well you can't come any closer than Baxter has with this new collection of cowboy poems. All performed by Baxter, each introduced by a friend, including Ben Johnson, Bobbie Gentry, Rex Allen, Tuff Hedman, Chris LeDoux, Wilford Brimley and many more...
