Rapid Weather is a full service company serving individuals and businesses around the globe. Meteorology Training Center About 10 years ago, plans were laid to start a professional weather training program using experienced meteorologists as instructors. Why? First of all, it is difficult for recent graduates to land a job in operational meteorology without experience. College education - undergraduate and graduate - provides the knowledge needed to work in meteorology but it does not provide adequate practical application. Public and private employers spend thousands of dollars to train just one graduate to perform basic tasks. Second, because employers spend so much money on basic training - and because some of the trainees just do not work out - it is more economical for employers to hire people who have already had advanced training. The Meteorology Training Center began basic and advanced training for meteorologists in 2000. In 2001 we started offering limited online courses in addition to our on-site programs. During 2002 we took our training programs on the road. We teach you what you need to know to be successful, not a lot of theory you'll never use. We do it in a short period of time and at the lowest possible cost to you. Our case studies are always practical and often our lessons use real-time or near-realtime weather situations. At the Meteorology Training Center you learn by doing. We believe that you will achieve greater success by taking action. Our participants have come from all around the globe. Some are still in college, some have been employed in other fields and want to get back into operational meteorology. Some have PhDs and others have military training. Some are self-employed and others are working deep inside government or private organizations. Many do very well, but some drop out because it is too difficult. Only the best make it and that is the way we want it. Our faculty has worked with the largest commercial weather services, on the largest construction projects, with the largest power companies, top airlines, major motion pictures, government agencies, news organizations and agri-businesses. They have decades of experience working extremely critical weather events. They have worked with businesses who make million-dollar weather decisions every day and on lawsuits with millions or billions of dollars at stake. We are located in Rapid City, South Dakota because it is a wonderful place to spend time when you are not training. The volatile weather around the Black Hills - an eastern outcropping of the Rocky Mountains - provides us with ample opportunity to demonstrate extreme weather events. We have nonstop airline service to Minneapolis, Denver and Salt Lake City, making it easy for us to bring in high profile speakers.
